Baptism.

Baptism (Christening) is a big decision for you and your family.  At baptism you are starting your journey as a Christian.  You make promises to God about how you will live your life and you make thses promises infront of families and friends and members of the local church.  At St Francis of Assisi we are happy to baptise (Christen) you, or your child, but it is best to be sure it is what you really want to do first.  You are only Baptised once!

Thanksgiving Service

When a new baby is born our instinct is to celebrate, to say 'thank you'!.

We are able to provide a thanksgiving service for you, where you celebrate the arrival of your baby, or give thanks for the children in your family.  A thanksgiving service isn't a Christening or a Baptism, but it is a religious service in which you give thanks to God as well as to others who have been or are supporting you.

You don't have to make promises during a thansgiving in the same way you do during a Baptism.  Many people have a thanskgiving first and then a Baptism when they feel ready, a little later on.

Baptism

Baptising (or christening) a child means making a big decision.  You are asking for your child to be admitted to the Christian Church and you will be making promises to bring them up as a Christian.  Having your child baptized means you are willing to make a commitment to their faith and to the church.

Your child's Baptism will normally take place during the main Sunday service at 10.30am. This is so that your child can be seen to be joining the family of the Church and be welcomed into membership. In turn the Church will promise to support and pray for you and your child.
