Struggling with your rent?

This week, we helped a client to apply for Housing Payments (previously called Discretionary Housing Payments or DHP).  This was to help towards a shortfall (or difference) between the Universal Credit Housing Costs (or Housing Benefit) she received and the actual rent ton the property her family was renting.  She was paying £900 per month rent but was only getting £772 help towards it through benefits so we put a request in for help with the shortfall of £127 per month.

If you are struggling to pay your rent, you may be eligible for help until you can find cheaper private property or a social housing property through Coventry Homefinder.  Please book an appointment on 07387 66 83 22 for an assessment and any help to complete the application.

Please note an award is not guaranteed and will be time limited. Before you move into a property, check how much help you will get towards the rent and how you can pay any shortfall before signing an agreement as failure to do so may affect a future application for extra financial support.

You will also need to supply bank statements to confirm your income and expenditure, this will help show you are making efforts to budget for your rent but are still struggling and need the extra help.
