Staff Cultural Insight 1, from our amazing Food Support Coordinator, Manjit:

My parents were born in Jalandhar District, Punjab. My caste is Jatt (farmers). I follow the Sikh religion, like many punjabis. In India, most food is vegetarian. A common meal is a veg sabje curry, a lentil dhal, fresh plain yogurt, salad, chapattis and a sweet.

Sikhism advocates equality, social justice, service to humanity, and tolerance for other religions. The essential message of Sikhism is spiritual devotion and reverence of God at all times while practicing the ideals of honesty, compassion, humility and generosity in everyday life this is important to me.

🪯 khanda It is the symbol of oneness, of Unicity of Justice, Humanity, and the Immortality.

Kara – a bangle, circular because it shows that God’s love is eternal. It is worn on the right wrist and shows an attachment to God. Rule: you must love and respect God.
